Old-and-New Wallpaper Installation in Navassa, NC

Wallpaper Installation in Navassa's Older and Newer Homes

Navassa's housing spans every era: 27.0 percent before 1980, about half since 2000. Those shares come from the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey, which counts 49.4 percent of homes built in 2000 or later and puts the median build year at about 2000. More is planned: in 2019 the town approved the first phases of two single-family subdivisions, River Bend off Cedar Hill Road and Indian Creek along Daniels Road. How much of either has been built, we have not confirmed.

For wallpaper, the build year sets the first stage. In a house from the 1970s or earlier, the wall may already have held paper once, and an earlier owner may have painted over it rather than stripping it. That layer has to come off before anything new goes up, and painted-over paper is slow to release. Under federal EPA rules, paid work that disturbs paint in most homes built before 1978 must follow lead-safe practices.

In a house built since 2000, the job usually starts on bare drywall under the builder's paint. Nothing needs stripping, and the wall is filled, sanded and primed for paper. Homes from the 1980s and 1990s fall between the two and are checked one wall at a time.

About 28 percent of Navassa homes are manufactured homes, and we paper those walls as well. Our Judges Road shop is about 12 road miles from the town's mapped center near Cedar Hill Road and nearer 15 from its western section.

What Wallpaper Installation in Navassa Includes

Chances are your paper is already picked, by you or by a designer; that is true of most of our customers. If you are still deciding, we figure the roll count from the pattern repeat before you place the order. Our own W-2 installer hangs it, never a subcontractor, and we hang traditional papers only. Our wallpaper installation page covers the full method.

On every Navassa installation

Old paper stripped and the wall repaired before anything is hung

A primer or sizing coat chosen for your paper

A plumb line set with a level rather than taken from a corner

Seams pattern-matched and the design kept level around the room

Inside corners cut by hand, never wrapped

A final look at the room together, then cleanup

Before 1980 or after 2000

A pre-1980 Navassa room can hide more than one layer. Paper that was painted over is scored and soaked through the paint until it lets go, and a second, older paper may sit under the first. Under federal EPA rules, paid work that disturbs paint in most homes built before 1978 must follow lead-safe practices. Once the wall is bare, gouges and loose spots are repaired so they do not show under the new pattern. A room built since 2000 skips that stage: it is patched, sanded and primed, then papered. A house from the 1980s or 1990s could go either way, depending on what an earlier owner left on its walls.

Why Navassa Homeowners Choose Intracoastal Wallcovering for Wallpaper Installation

The Build Year, Asked First

A 1970s Navassa house and one from the last few years need different first steps. We ask the decade when you request the estimate, so stripping time is known before you book rather than discovered mid-job.

A Straight Lead-Safe Answer

More than a quarter of Navassa homes predate 1980. If yours does and old paper was painted over, ask how removal is handled, and you get a direct answer before any date is set.

New Drywall, Properly Primed

Builder paint on fresh drywall is not a finished surface for paper. We prime first, so the paper bonds now and can still be stripped cleanly years from now.

How Much Does Wallpaper Installation Cost in Navassa?

The instant estimate prices your room, and in Navassa that room could be from 1975 or 2015. Two rooms with the same floor area can land at different figures. What sets yours:

          Wall area and ceiling height

The paper: grasscloth and vinyl hang differently, and unpasted papers hang differently again

The pattern repeat, which decides how much paper is lost at each seam

Old layers to strip, and whether paint was rolled over them

Repair to the bare wall once those layers are gone

In an older Navassa house, removal can move the price a good deal, especially when paper was painted over. In a house built since 2000, there is usually nothing to strip, so the same room generally costs less. The quote is the quote we honor. Rolls are charged apart from labor unless you buy them through our sourcing service. Military households get 10% off.
