Wallpaper Installation in Burgaw

Old-House Wallpaper Installation in Burgaw, NC

Wallpaper Installation on Burgaw's Older Walls

Burgaw has one of the largest pre-1940 housing shares on our Pender list, far above Topsail Beach (1.2 percent) or Hampstead (0.8 percent). The Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey puts it at roughly 15 percent, and 42.9 percent of the town's housing went up before 1980. Many of the oldest houses likely lie within the Burgaw Historic District, added to the National Register in 1999. Its period of significance runs from about 1850 to 1949, and its homes are mostly modest: late Queen Anne cottages, foursquares, Craftsman bungalows and a few Cape Cods.

Inside a house from those decades, the wall may be plaster, and it may hold a layer or two of earlier paper. Sometimes that paper was painted over rather than stripped. Old paper always comes down and the wall gets repaired before we hang anything new; on a Burgaw wall of that age, expect that stage to run longer. Painted-over paper deserves a mention in your estimate request, because removing it disturbs paint. Under federal EPA rules, paid work that disturbs paint in most homes built before 1978 must follow lead-safe practices.

For a house inside the district, interior wallpaper and paint are not subject to historic-district review.

Burgaw is the Pender County seat, about 24 road miles inland from our Judges Road shop.

What Wallpaper Installation in Burgaw Includes

You probably have paper chosen already, your own pick or a designer's, since most of our customers do. Haven't ordered? Send us the pattern and we calculate rolls from its repeat, so the order comes out right. The installer in your room is on our W-2 payroll; we never pass a job to a subcontractor. For the full method, see how our wallpaper installation works.

Part of every installation

Old paper stripped and the wall repaired first

A primer or sizing coat suited to your paper

A true vertical set with a level, never taken from the corner

Pattern matched at every seam and kept level around the room

Inside corners cut by hand, never wrapped

A final look at the room with you, then cleanup

What changes in a pre-1940 Burgaw house

The first stage is slower. Paper that was painted over has to be scored and soaked through the paint before it lets go. Under federal EPA rules, paid work that disturbs paint in most homes built before 1978 must follow lead-safe practices. Plaster that cracks or loosens once the paper is off gets repaired before primer, since new paper telegraphs every ridge. Under one painted layer there may be a second, older paper, and each comes off on its own. If the wall behind it all proves to be plaster, you hear that before the first strip is hung. Your estimate lists this removal and repair as its own time. A Burgaw house built since 2000, with drywall and one coat of paint, skips most of it.

Painted-Over Paper, Priced Up Front

Paper hidden under paint is slow to remove, and pretending otherwise just moves the surprise to installation day. Tell us it's there and the estimate carries that removal time before you book.

A Call Before We Arrive

Burgaw sits well inland of our Wilmington shop. We answer the phone, and we call before we arrive, so the installer at your door is expected rather than a surprise.

How Wallpaper Installation Works in Burgaw

From the first conversation to the finished room.

Start With the House's Age stage of a coastal Carolina interior project01

Start With the House's Age

Pick your build-year range on the instant estimate. If an older owner papered the room and someone later painted over it, mention that too; removal is the slow part in an old Burgaw house.

Rolls, Then a Date stage of a coastal Carolina interior project02

    Rolls, Then a Date

No paper yet? We figure rolls from the pattern repeat before you order. Our schedule usually runs two to three weeks out, and we call before we arrive.

Strip and Repair Before Hanging stage of a coastal Carolina interior project03

      Strip and Repair Before Hanging

Old paper comes off first, painted layers included, and soft or cracked plaster is repaired and primed. Only a sound wall gets paper.

Walk the Room, Then Done stage of a coastal Carolina interior project04

        Walk the Room, Then Done

The installer shows you the finished walls, corners first, and the room is cleaned up. A 1-year workmanship guarantee stands behind the hanging.

How Much Does Wallpaper Installation Cost in Burgaw?

Your instant estimate prices the room you actually have. In Burgaw that matters, because a pre-1940 bungalow and a house built since 2000 can share a floor plan and still need very different prep. The number depends on:

Square footage of wall and the ceiling height

Your paper: grasscloth and vinyl each hang their own way, and unpasted papers hang differently

The pattern repeat, which sets how much paper is wasted at each seam

Layers of old paper, and whether they were painted over

Plaster or drywall repair after removal

In an older Burgaw house, removal is usually where the price moves, so a painted-over wall should be mentioned in your estimate request. A newer home, with drywall and nothing to strip, generally costs less for the same room. Whatever figure we quote, we honor. Paper is priced separately unless you source it through us. Military households get 10% off.
