Calabash borders South Carolina in the southwestern corner of Brunswick County. By road it is about 55 miles from our Judges Road shop to Beach Drive SW, among the longest drives on our Brunswick County list.
Distance weighs on interior painting more than on wallpaper. An interior repaint can run several days, and each of those days begins with the same drive. So we aim to book a Calabash job as consecutive work days, one run from the first room to the last, rather than days scattered over several weeks. Run back to back, the drive is made on working days only, and the house spends less time with rooms half done and furniture out of place. Each extra stretch of days adds another round trip of roughly 110 road miles.
About half the houses date from the 1980s and 1990s. The Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey puts the median build year at 1995 and counts about 15 percent of Calabash housing as built before 1980. Under federal EPA rules, paid work that disturbs paint in most homes built before 1978 must follow lead-safe practices.
Calabash belongs on our Brunswick County service list.
One company handles both paint and wallpaper, so a Calabash house that needs both is a single booking. Your painter works for us and is covered by our $2M general liability and workers' comp policies. Our interior painting page walks through each step. The standard scope applies anywhere we paint; at this distance, the calendar is what changes.
Walls, ceilings, trim and doors in the rooms you choose
Holes and cracks filled and sanded smooth
Open joints along trim caulked
Marks and stains primed so they do not bleed through
Floors covered and furniture moved or protected
A final walkthrough with you, then cleanup

Where your calendar allows, the work days are booked as one consecutive run, from the first room to the last, rather than a day this week and two the next. If you need a break in the middle, for travel or visitors, say so when you request the estimate, and the job is split into as few stretches as possible. A single run also means drop cloths go down once and furniture moves once, instead of being reset for each separate visit. Touch-ups found on the walkthrough are finished on the last day of the run wherever possible. In a Calabash house built before 1978, lead-safe setup is planned into the first day. Leftover paint is labeled by room and left with you, so a scuff next year needs no trip from us.

When the run of days ends, the leftover paint stays with you, each can marked with its room. A scuff next spring can then be touched up without waiting on a 55-mile visit from us.

Roughly 15 percent of Calabash homes were built before 1980. If yours is one, ask how prep and lead-safe setup work, and hear a clear answer before any date is booked.

Wallpaper in one room and paint in the rest? Both trades come from one company, so a Calabash house gets one crew schedule instead of two contractors making the long drive.
From the first conversation to the finished room.
01Request an estimate and use the notes to name the rooms and the weeks you can clear, so a run of consecutive days can be held.
02Your work days go on the calendar back to back. Booking usually runs two to three weeks out, and we call before we arrive.
03Each room is covered, prepped and painted in sequence, and tools are packed away at the end of every day.
04Tour each room with the painter on the last day. Touch-ups you point out are finished before the crew heads back north.
Pricing follows the rooms you name, not a flat per-room rate. Calabash adds one variable that a Wilmington job does not carry: about 55 road miles each way. The rest of the number moves with:
How many rooms, their size and ceiling height
Which surfaces: walls alone, or ceilings, trim and doors too
Repairs to holes, cracks and stains
How many separate work days the job needs, and whether they run consecutively
Lead-safe setup in a house built before 1978
Travel for each separate stretch of work days
Booked back to back, a several-day job makes the drive on working days only, where scattered days add trips. A 1990s Calabash house with sound walls usually needs little patching, while an older one may need more repair before paint. Once you accept it, the quote is the quote we honor. Military households save 10%.

Paper matched to your wall type and hung by a W-2 crew, with every inside corner cut by hand.
