Prep Matched to the Building
A drywall bedroom in a 2000s house and a paneled bedroom in a manufactured home need different first steps. We identify the surface when we estimate and name its primer, so nothing changes on the day.

Hampstead's housing is less uniform than its young median age suggests. The Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey counts about 64 percent of homes as detached houses, nearly one in five as manufactured homes, and roughly one in seven in buildings of ten or more units, though the Census estimate carries a wide margin. Before anyone picks a color, the type of building settles two questions: what the walls are made of, and how a crew and its gear reach the room.
More than half of all Hampstead homes were built in 2000 or later, and the median dates to 2003. Walls in the detached houses are typically taped drywall, often still under the builder's original paint, and prep is filling, sanding and spot-priming ahead of the finish coats.
Manufactured homes change the prep more than anything else on this list. Many have prefinished wall panels, some with a vinyl or printed face, and ordinary latex may not stay put on that face without a wash and a bonding primer underneath. The strips covering panel seams can be painted with the wall or left as they are.
In a condo or apartment building, access shapes the day. Ladders, drop cloths and paint come in through shared halls, stairs or an elevator, and an association may set work hours, parking or a certificate of insurance. Our crew comes up US 17 from Wilmington, about 12 road miles to Hampstead, which is unincorporated and part of Pender County.
We're a second-generation wallpaper company that also paints, and paper shows every dent and ridge on the wall beneath it. So before a Hampstead room is painted, its walls get the same close look for flaws a fresh coat would reveal. The person painting your rooms answers to our office and works under our $2M general liability and workers' comp. For the method in full, from surface prep through cleanup, see our interior painting page.
Walls, ceilings, trim and doors, chosen room by room
Dents, holes and cracks filled and sanded
Gaps along trim caulked so the cut line stays crisp
Stains and repairs spot-primed
Floors covered and furniture protected
A sheen picked for each room's use
A final walkthrough, touch-ups and cleanup

In a detached house, the estimate turns mostly on square footage and how many surfaces you want painted. Manufactured-home panels get a degreasing wash and a light scuff, since heavy sanding can cut through a printed face, and a bonding primer goes on before any color. Some manufactured homes have textured ceiling panels as well, and the estimate says whether those are in scope. In a condo, planning starts with the building: where the crew parks, which entrance and elevator to use, and the hours the association permits. Runners go down from your front door to the work area, so the shared corridor stays clean.

Live in a building with an association? Send its contractor rules with your estimate request. Work hours, parking and any insurance certificate get settled before your date rather than on the morning itself.

In a shared building, a tipped can or a dropped ladder can reach the unit next door. Our $2M general liability and workers' comp stand behind the person painting your rooms.

Painting most of a room and papering one wall? One company plans both visits, so the painted walls are finished before paper goes up beside them.
From the first conversation to the finished room.
01Request an estimate, list the rooms and choose your type of home. In a condo, add the association's contractor rules if it has any.
02We settle colors, sheens and surfaces with you. The estimate names any special primer, such as a bonding coat on prefinished panels.
03We call before we arrive. Floors and furniture are covered, walls are prepped for their material, then painted.
04Go through each room with the painter and point out anything to touch up. Afterward the crew cleans up, including any shared hallway it used.
Your estimate is built from the rooms you list and the kind of home they're in. The main factors:
Square footage and ceiling height
Surfaces: walls alone, or ceilings, trim and doors as well
Wall material: taped drywall, or prefinished panels that need a bonding primer
Building access: stairs, elevators and parking in a larger building
Number of colors and sheens
In a newer detached Hampstead house, prep tends to be patching and spot-priming, so wall area sets most of the price. Panels and building logistics add steps, and the estimate lists them, so you see where the hours go. A manufactured home's bonding primer is a material cost as well as a labor step. In a condo, time spent carrying gear through a lobby or waiting on an elevator is part of the day, so we ask about the building before quoting rather than after. Once quoted, your price holds. The 10% military discount comes off the quoted total.

Rather paper one wall than paint it? Our wallpaper crew handles that too, usually within a day.

We track down trade papers to sit beside a new paint color, including patterns that are hard to find.

From our Wilmington base, we serve Hampstead and the surrounding Pender County area, plus the rest of the coastal Carolinas corridor.
